Their names will be on the ballot for governor but 4 democratic candidates are not in the running for the top 2 spots. The latest polling has been consistent in showing 3 candidates with a good chance of making the final 2 for the general election ballot. All others are not in contention this late in the process. Voting has been under way for a couple of weeks and will culminate on June 2nd. That is 3 days from now. I am all for ambition to make a difference in our society but sometimes that difference is recognizing the reality around us with a clear mind. The 4 democratic candidates that are not in contention should bow out of the race and endorse one of the remaining democratic candidates.
Their name will still be on the primary ballot but they will be doing the democratic party a favor in that making sure a democrat is on the general election ballot come November 2nd. By not halting their runs they are siphoning what votes are left away from the more popular democratic candidates. This only helps the republicans who still have 2 candidates in the race. The top 2 vote getters move on to the general election regardless of party. So in theory the 2 republicans could be in the final election if the vote is split badly between the remaining 6 democrats.
Which is why it is important today for the 4 democratic candidates who are not going to get into the top 2, Porter, Mahan, Thurmond, and Villaraigosa to drop out quickly and endorse their preferred remaining democratic candidate. The point of what the 4 are doing has been made but any further consideration to continue is counterproductive and inherently unwise. We need leaders who understand what leading is and not just a blind ambition against wisdom, no matter how noble their intent. This isn't about any one person, this is about all of us! So if the 4 would just realize that jeopardizing the governorship of California out of one's own self ambition is abominable they would immediately stop their campaigns and endorse their most preferred rival.
This blog will be an advocate for compassion, curiosity and human survival. It is my wish and hope that my reasonings on a variety of subjects will provide the readers of this blog with personal and public insights.
