Here's to another 10 years (#3653)

It would have been perfect if I had awoken this morning to the news that trump was in handcuffs and his administration was being dismantled. Such is my nightly hope before I go to sleep. Yet once again I awaken to the reality of trump still being in charge of our presidency, less putin. So resolutely, I redouble my efforts to oppose him and all that he stands for with all that I have within me. My daily blog post used to be about compassion and curiosity generally but since the existential threat trump has brought down on our heads I felt my blog post better served society as a siren call to all who actually understand the importance of democracy.
Democracy is not just some abstract thought that can be whisked away by some carnival barking huckster in order to satisfy his egoistic mental deficiencies. No, it is the bedrock of our enlightened society. Most of us see the world as a place where many diverse and exceptional people may be nurtured to grow into the advanced beings we are reckoned to become. There is much work to be done and there are no doubt many problems within our democracy that need to be corrected. However there is no time for the intentional disruptions that the trumps and republicans are playing at with our very real lives. Tearing apart the progress that has been made through hard won sacrifice is just not to be allowed!
So the time going forward for me is precious in that I have within me a duty to our nation that cannot be ignored nor left wavering. So once again I start afresh with a new blog post calling for the end of trumps and the republican party that enabled him. Let there be no doubt that this time in history, should we all live long enough to see it recorded, will become a case study in just how vulnerable our democracy became when we let the influences of greed and ignorance infiltrate our daily lives to the detriment of our allegiance to the greatest democracy every established. It won't be me who fails to fight like a dog of war to keep America the symbol of hope and courage in the face of the cruel and brutish socio/psychopaths who gain power through hook and crook!

Milestone day, ten straight years with this post (#3652)

It does seem like an occasion with me since I am somewhat into marking time at certain intervals. Birthdays etc.. Yet for this it is really kind of cool for me because when I started I had no idea how long I would last or even if I would make it a daily blog post. Yet, minus the 3 days I actually missed, and then made up for the next day by posting 2 blog post subjects, I have found out that I was motivated to try. I missed # (3) because well I was just trying to decide what to do and on that day completely forgot to post. The next day it hit me that I wanted to post everyday so I made 2 posts on day 4 and never forgot again.
I did however get awfully sick twice during this 10 year run and in no way could I have posted either day. Posts 642 and 1042 were makeup posts published the day after the misses in keeping with my solution for a post a day, regardless them being a day late. So doing the math here I haven't missed a day of daily posting for any reason for, (3652-1042) = 2610 days. A little over 7 years without any makeup posts the next day. So I have found my rhythm and avoided any major issue that would have kept me from posting. Several times I lost Internet and had to go find wifi in order to post but that wasn't too inconvenient since I do have a vehicle and live here in California's capitol city.
So with today marking 10 years I can put that behind me and embrace the next length of time whatever it may be. I wasn't sure when trump got appointed whether he would have killed us all well before this or not but it seems that we may actually survive his greedy, cruel, egoist idiocy and not have the doubt of our very lives at the forefront of our minds. Earlier last month I had been contemplating whether to keep going or stop with the milestone but having spent about an hour debating it with myself I decided that I couldn't stop nor modify my contribution to the ether without a greater purpose to replace it. I am a creature of some habits and it seems that this habit is one of those welcome few I am lucky to have.

My health (#3651)

Throughout my life I had been hyper active especially when it came to sports. I started young at about 8 years old and seemingly never stopped until I was in my forties. From little league baseball to high school basketball, then recreation leagues for both softball and basketball. I even spent a few years as an assistant basketball coach at the community college level. Shout out to previously Bellevue Community College, now Bellevue College in the Seattle area. But that isn't the extent of my physical nature. I have worked at labor intensive jobs most of my life from being a rough building wood framer to a underground miner and on to being a tree logger. Everything from work to recreation has had an intensity to it where I had to put out physically to stay abreast of production and success.
Which brings me to my health. I could not afford health care for the majority of my life so if an emergency came up it was weighed with the thought of going to an emergency room or just toughing out whatever had happened. So many times I have broken, torn or otherwise mostly disabled bones, ligaments, squeezed discs, and tendons and been left with a decrease in physical function and it's attendant pains and aches. As I am now well into my 60's I can pretty much feel the effect of my physical life with each and every movement. Not to be left out are the dental procedures I surely needed but where not attended to because the cost was too high without any insurance.
All of this to say that the years have had a heavy toll on me and without being able to keep up with medical care I am now the guy who has to struggle to get out of his chair whenever he sits down. I still try to work at things as much as I can but my body quickly lets me know that if I don't stop it will! It is my great hope that our nation can find it's way to a medicare for all or some such program where everyone who has a physical life has a chance to keep from piling up the injuries so that when they do get older like me it isn't a curse as much as it is being satisfied for a life well lived. I am no perfect soul and neither is anyone else but our lives would be so much more than the pain and drudgery if we could at least go to a medical healer without having to worry about how we could pay the all too high cost of having no insurance.

republicans through trump, trying to destroy modernization (#3650)

The republican party has no tolerance for science and intellectualism. For the main reason that both advance modernity. This is why issues such as climate change and Income inequality do not register with them. They are all about living in a world where they are protected by privilege and advantage and everyone else must live by the rules of our harshest natures. Not only a population control strategy for them but a crowd control one as well. When they put our unionization under attack and find ways to make right to work laws sound enviable the notion that republicans are a democracy based entity is ludicrous. They are an authoritarian entity that as well are racist and misogynist.
So they have their hero trump who is the ultimate reed being blown in the wind to maneuver as they please and his braggadocio to infer that he is the ruler of the time. A simply played fool who would think he is king as the errand boy for the republican agenda of dividing our nation from it's democratic roots so that the republican party can live it's Utopian authoritarian lifestyle. We the many masses are the fodder for their cannon balls and that is just how republicans want it. The republican party is the scourge of our time yet we Americans are not convinced that they could be that devious. I and many like me know it because we follow politics with a fervor but too many others are novices at politics and don't understand how the republicans could be traitorous.
For me it is simple to explain and hard to get an agreement from those who will not hear. I just say look at all the laws passed by republicans and look at all the laws passed by democrats. Who is fighting for the wealthy, republicans; and whom is fighting for the working middle poor class, we democrats. There is no denying the facts of reality if one wants to be objective. It is not even close as to whom is making life miserable for the many, republicans; and whom is making life more bearable, we democrats, in the face of the republican onslaught on the working middle poor class. I have no controlling agenda as to what reality speaks but I do have a responsibility to speak it when the truth of reality is questioned. The republican party wants to end democracy for those of us who are not them by destroying modernity and telling us it is not their fault!

The whitewashing of America, trump style (#3649)

That trump is comfortable with his far right wing nationalist base tells us all we need to know about how he views the world. It is with white colored glasses. The intentional manipulation of our electoral process in 2016 is the only reason we have to stay laser focused on this appointed president. He is the worst of who we are as a nation and all he has accomplished is to give rise and hope to the worst of who we are who love him for it. What we Americans are witnessing is the bottom of the barrel we never knew or believed we had here. I like others supposed there were a few bad souls but we are all mostly astonished that a few is the least of it. There are far too many that have such a hateful ignorant world view of how life was, is and could be.
So trump and his ilk are now the powers that be and for the rest of us we are the defiant opposition to not only stop trumps and there destructive ethical and moral decay but we are the ones who must sacrifice whatever is necessary to succeed. I know it is tough sending troops into a battle that may well be their last moments on Earth but there are cases where the only defense left is to give it all and then let the dust settle. I know I am not a commander of these things but if I were I would not hesitate to lead my troops wherever they go whether knowing certain death was the outcome or not. Some things are greater in the moment than other things so whatever needs to be done is what we all must do to stop the trumps from their bulldozing of our democracy.
They have but one goal in mind and it isn't about diversity or tolerance. It is about establishing a white race as the bedrock of citizenry. Let there be no doubt among any who are just realizing that republicans are the harm and democrats are the cure. The trumps are authoritarian and they want their version of America to reflect that. They stole power while the rest of us were asleep at the helm and now we are paying for that slumber. Yet we are awake now and have started to chip away at the all powerful trump. His days, if we are all still determined to succeed, are numbered either through special prosecutions or election day November 3, 2020. America was never an all white nation and it will not become one in the future because we honorable whites and most all other people of color will not allow that travesty!

trump blinked twice (#3648)

Not only did trump acquiesce to Nancy Pelosi on the State of the Union address but not 2 days later he acquiesced to open government from his 35 day shutdown. His smarmy co conspirator mitch mcconnell followed suit and did as his trump overlord directed. So now we see that trump is no master of any deal let alone his own words to prolong the shutdown for months and/or years. All it took was a united front from democrats and the pressure from the grassroots from those who were most affected by trump's hostage taking power play. The hollow of trump is vast and once beyond the bravado there is little else there.
This is what we patriotic Americans of democracy and the world at large have been waiting for. The fracturing of the rhetorical wall trump had built up between we the citizenry of America and his demented ideal of his way or the highway. The fever of trump has been broken now and trump broke it himself. He is no longer looked upon with the euphoria of a deity, instead his many followers are now left with a broken ideal that exposes itself as a sham. Just another fantasy taken away by the rigors of reality. We tried to warn you who had nothing but enthusiasm for your imperial leader but you could not hear us from all the siren calls for you to follow him as if he were invincible.
Well he proved he wasn't invincible and all it took was a wise grandmotherly woman who saw through his bellicosity and stormed the beaches of his insanity with a vengeance. He curled up at her feet and said yes to her demands like he was dependent upon her for his very existence. It is still early days in that the law signed yesterday only covers the next 3 weeks but it is in the fact that he signed it at all that we find his weakness and his cowardice. Good for America he signed it but for himself and all who thought he was their universe ruling champion, shame! We will see again by February 15th whether trump has been fully broken but the fact that he is broken now gives all of us who have more than a simple thought in our heads at any given time a new incentive to fight trump and his republican party with even greater vigor.

With stone arrest more pressure on trump (#3647)

The roger stone arrest puts more pressure on trump as his worries continue to mount. Not only has the government shutdown failed to get him his vanity wall it is working out as the catalyst for a lot more disgruntlement coming his way. He claimed to own the shutdown and that is proving to be his unmovable obstacle. Now with the criminal proceeding of Mueller encroaching into his sphere the fear he must be feeling that he will soon be next to be indicted is real and palpable for him. For him to continue with the government shutdown only helps to fuel his desperation when all sides seem to be closing in around him. Justly deserved I will add.
So I wouldn't be surprised now if he decides to escape the current negativity of the government shutdown just to release some of the pressure building on his already large unfavorably percentage, since we know how important his ego is to him. Likely he will succumb once again to a real immovable force in the form of Nancy Pelosi and concede defeat for his wall and instead claim some other victory through the new coming border protection additions in the new funding bill today from democrats. However his real problem of mounting pressure is if stone sings like a bird now that stone finds himself in real danger of doing prison time.
I know one thing about the criminal mind and that is it is foundational and rooted in self survival so forget that old saw about honor among thieves. I doesn't apply when weighed against spending too much time behind bars where a whole nother scary world exists. If I have the gauge correctly attuned trump isn't going to want any other distractions like the shutdown to further complicate his life. These pampered trump mouthpieces may speak their lies in the real world but when it comes to spending time in prison their lies will only get them their worst fears. I am very happy about this indictment of stone since his braggadocio attitude is about to find it's no match for what a guilty plea on any of these charges will portend for his immediate future. He will sing to save his own neck!

The folding of trump has just begun (#3646)

I cannot express how important this moment is to our nation. The bully trump has folded on his state of the union speech after trying all his belligerent tactics in the press, https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-concedes-to-nancy-pelosi-postpones-state-of-the-union-speech-2019-1?utm_content=buffer5c9cf&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer-bi. Which is exactly what he is doing with the government shutdown. We now have a template for how trump operates when he is being stubborn about a policy or desire. He throws everything negative at it and then when there is nothing left to throw he quietly concedes to his opponent. I expect the same to occur in the few coming days with his government shutdown. He will fold to Nancy again and then slink off to lick his wounds.
For those who thought Nancy was too old to be the Speaker of the House are awful silent now that she is roaring like a lion in the face of the coward trump. We who knew her always knew she was as tough as it comes and if she was willing to keep on fighting on our behalf we would support her to the ends of the Earth. For most of his life trump has been able to bully those who were in any way beholden to him but Nancy is not beholden to anyone except our American citizens. So his tactics of bullying are null and void with Nancy and will continue to be so for the rest of his at most one term appointed presidency.
After today we will know more about where we stand as to the government shutdown as even the often bullying mcconnell has folded in allowing a vote on a democratic sponsored bill from the House. Along with the trump bill which has no chance of passing. We will see how many defectors there are in the republican party who vote for the House bill they previously approved by voice vote just last month before trump said he wouldn't support it. Will these same republicans now vote no to appease trump or will they vote yes and give our federal workers their lifelines of labor back. This is their defining moment as well because many of them will be up for election this coming next year.

Pelosi is the better "wo"man (#3645)

trump and mcconnell were right to be scared of Nancy Pelosi. That is why they worked so hard over the last few years to discredit her at every turn. Using her as a punching bag in the races across the nation. Well just like those tactics of theirs failed miserably on election night November 6th, 2018, it also failed to keep her from becoming Majority Leader of the House of Representatives. So having failed to keep her from being the face of the Democratic opposition to the Russian appointed president and Russian controlled Senate, they choose what was left to them, take her on. Well little republican boys, Nancy kicked all your asses and will continue to do so for as long as you tenuously hold power.
We see that now with trump not getting what he wanted and forced to absorb the daily disgrace of having shutdown the government with his temper tantrum and mcconnell slinking away from the fight and hiding in his turtle shell. Well the worm has finally turned and mcconnell has come slithering back to finally acquiesce to putting forth a bill from the House for a vote on the government shutdown, https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/senate-majority-leader-mitch-mcconnell-set-introduce-bill/story?id=60537713. This major break in the shaky united front of republicans to hold America hostage over a vanity wall trump's ego demanded proves once again that trying to force Nancy Pelosi to abandon her commitment to a democratic society is pointless and in the end a massacre on the heads of those who try.
Nancy has bested them by sticking to her principles of a better world over a worsening one. We can all be proud of her since she goes out of her way to represent us with all her heart, mind and soul. She is our champion for now and we are super lucky to have her. How this wall standoff eventually winds down is not at all clear but that it is winding down now is very clear. The trumps and their conspiratorially corrupt republicans in Congress are now forced to reopen the government without any money for trumps wall. Because when it is all said and done Nancy Pelosi bested them and she didn't take any prisoners!

Indentured servitude (#3644)

That trump is making federal workers work without being paid is akin to indentured servitude. Economic slavery so to speak. Nowhere in our National Constitution can I find a clause that would allow such a practice. This smacks of a constitutional violation and since the shutdown of government which makes no pay available is caused by the appointed president it seems the buck would stop with him being the culprit. If I were a federal worker I would file a lawsuit against the appointed president for a violation of my rights to be paid for my labor. the case is not difficult to prove since the appointed president took blame for shutting down the government and then ordered the workers back to work with no pay.
I am no lawyer but it seems to me that the common sense of working for nothing under duress of losing one's job cannot be legal nor ethical. What am I missing here that would protect a tyrannical act from an appointed president from being charged for making citizens work for nothing? Isn't that the very definition of tyranny, "an oppressive, harsh, or unjust act : a tyrannical act",https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tyranny. Surely our national constitution does not allow for a strategy of tyranny to overrule democratic principles especially in peacetime. There is an accepted process for governance in our nation that has been battle tested and found acceptable so holding our nation and too many of our federal workers hostage as a negotiating tool cannot be allowed to stand.
This is not some vague or conspiratorial argument I am making here. Forcing citizens to endure the hardship of a manufactured crisis from the appointed president is on it's face dishonest and in my mind illegal. We survived the cruel and brutish effects of slavery in our nation to the African American culture for over 244 years and now to go back and implement a policy that begins to mirror those awful days is not only now unAmerican but throughout the world largely eradicated. I know our Supreme Court only sees it's mission to adjudicate cases brought before it's bench but there has to come a time when they can agree to be extrajudicial and make plain that no attempts to indenture our citizens will be allowed!

We need Bob Mueller now! (#3643)

The only way we are going to survive this year is if the Mueller investigation starts laying out it's charges publicly with indictments. We know there are sealed indictments sitting in the courts waiting for Mueller to give the go ahead on so let's get going. This investigation has been going for nearly 2 years so although we know how thorough Mueller is with his cases our nation is being ripped apart right in front of us and the madness of trump needs to be stopped. We know trump has committed crimes so it isn't like the evidence isn't available so the only thing I can see that Mueller is trying to do is nail down an airtight case.
But getting something nearly perfect at this point may have to do because the time needed to get to airtight may have already passed us by. With each passing day the trumps are tearing our nation further apart at the seams. He has too many already willing to accept his culpability's as okay if they lead to the conservative outcomes they desire. So the longer this non indictment of trump stalls the further we are getting from crimes being enough to convict him. It is like the rational paradigm of crime and punishment is now dependent upon the intent of the crime committed by the criminal. Our nation is still being held hostage by trump and it seems that too many are okay with that. There is no force from the media to scream from the rooftops at the dishonesty they are now more willing to broadcast.
Which is why we need Mueller to indict as soon as possible. We cannot go on existing like this in America where our values are eroding with the racist misogynist trump leading the way. The majority of us here in America are tired and ready to be done with the trump experiment before he blows up in our faces. He is the worst appointed president I have been alive to see and that is saying something after shrub. So come on Bob Mueller, let's get this indictment train rolling and provide the evidence of those indictments for all to see. Our nation needs to heal and it won't happen until the trumps are gone from politics and they and their accomplices are in prison!

trump is going down! (#3642)

From what I saw yesterday at the Women's March and from the rest of our nation, trump doesn't have much longer because the anger coming from our citizenry is real and palpable. Yesterday trump tried to upstage our women's marches by announcing some kind of press conference in order to negotiate through the press with Nancy Pelosi about his wall funding. Well all he did was offer much the same trade that Nancy had already refused so his big announcement was nothing more than trying to steal some limelight from the women's march. How foolish of him because now we all know him well enough to see through his petty antics.
So as the federal shutdown continues trump is falling further behind in his disapproval/approval ratings. He originally made claim to owning the shutdown and now he is trying to shift the blame to democrats. Well again, enough of our voting public sees through his denials and he is now paying a heavier price for causing our federal workers to have no pay while he insists that many of them keep working for no pay. How much longer can he get away with this is harder to judge since mcconnell, the republican Senate majority leader, is afraid to go against anything trump tells him to do. It must be noted that there does seem to be a connection between trump, Russia and mcconnell. So whatever the reason the Senate does not appear at the moment to be able to function as an independent branch from trump under mcconnell's thumb.
So the stalemate continues but with one difference, trump is getting more and more of the blame and republicans by extension in their support of trump to keep the government closed. Taking hostage has never been a real good career decision but it appears that republicans and trump have decided that being of a felonious criminal mindset fulfills their desires more than their constitutional obligations to the American people. As trump continues to fall behind in the confidence we Americans place in our elected, although in trumps case appointed public leaders, his stand to keep government closed is coming to a head and his head will be the one that rolls. trump is going down and the only ones who don't know the inevitability of it are trump and his accomplices.

NO WALL NO WAY (#3641)

NO WALL NO WAY, that is my sign for today's Women's March which is about more than Women's rights it is about all of us living in a better society. My sign may not be aligned with what some may think it should be, strictly women's issues but I say this wall of trumps is harm to not only women but to all human beings. So in my little meager way I will protest the wall while walking for women to have equal rights with us men. Let there be no doubt as to my outrage that we men are in a better position constitutionally than our women. I am hopeful that Virginia will pass the ERA soon and then become the 38th state needed to ratify the 28th Amendment to our constitution.
There will have to be some legal and political maneuvering in order to get this new ERA Amendment enshrined as the 28th Amendment to our constitution but the will is there for this to happen and if we do get Virginia as the 38th state then I see this happening. Because the idea that our women are not equal partners in our society is not only disgraceful but it is in violation of our democracy. Forming the more perfect union is always worth fighting for and nothing should ever stop us from doing so. From equal pay for equal work, to women having the final say as to the outcome of their own bodies. The rights of women need to become established in our constitution so that there can never be a time when their constitutionally protected rights become a playing chip in some kind of political game.
So today we hit the streets to make known the insurmountable force that our women have birthed into our politics in order to demand their rightful place within it. It has been my contention for some time now that our liberal/progressive women should be the leaders of our political paradigm because there is no other beings on Earth who care for all the children ever born. Whether they be starting out or close to ending their time on this planet. We are all the children of our women and they make us better from their parenting. We men tend to take ourselves too seriously and as such we forget that it is the women who raised us and taught us values beyond our own selfishness and uncaring. Our women are a value beyond what we men acknowledge and that time needs to stop today!

Tomorrow's Women's March all across America (#3640)

I look forward to this march because of what it stands for, the rights and equality in our society for not only women but all who are oppressed. Through this march we again highlight that women are treated in society and through our laws as second class citizens and that has to end! So making everyone aware of this is what we are doing by participating. There is a real need for an uprising to force the powers that be away from their exclusion policies. This is how we do it when our other constitutional avenues for instituting change are less than successful. We march together to show solidarity and to build consensus around those areas of policy that can and should become enshrined into law.
There is another aspect of marching for change that is more personal and that is the feeling one gets by being around smart intelligent people who are not only serious about constitutional rights but who know how to enjoy life even when marching for a cause. I have been to great big parties and concerts that were enormous but none of them compare to the marches for change in our society. What a tremendous feeling of belonging and happiness when we walk together to show our resolve to make our world better than when we got here. The camaraderie is infectious in that you cannot help but feel the positive energy and the acceptance of all out there as one big happy family.
The smiles of hope and the joy of being part of something greater than ourselves is impossible to recreate at any other setting. A force for good and change that has less to do with us being entertained or making money off of some venture and more to do with our inner character. We stand up for our women tomorrow like we men would if it were ourselves fighting for our very own acceptance in society. I have known this my whole life, that doing something positive for someone else is a rush of a high that cannot ever be recreated with some inebriating substance. Being a part of this women's march is going to be a highlight of my year and will be every year until we can rectify the inequality our precious women are forced to endure!

The ending of our democracy (#3639)

If one thing is for certain it is that the trumps and the leadership of the republican party are done working within democratic paradigms and are assaulting the very nature of our society manipulating democratic rules to attain it. There is no doubt in my mind that republicans know they are the minority party on most all issues so instead of changing their policies to fit the general direction of the majority of our citizenry they are forcing chaos and cruelty as they double down on their racist misogynist altar. There is only one thing that can happen when our positive human natures are being stifled, and that is a negative human nature will fill the void.
This is the craft of republicans, sowing dissent and division while claiming innocence. The republican party is the virus of our generation and as such wish us no cure to our ailment. It isn't a stretch when you consider they are taking the modern advances of science and physics and denying that they are legitimate. Somehow with a straight face claiming that modernity itself is reckless and immoral. Yet the only one being stubbornly reckless and immoral is the republican party. I yell this from every platform I have because I know what it is like to be a steward of what is good and great about our human selves. The principles of honor and nobleness in all that we do is the hallmark of who we really are and there can be found none of that within the republican strategy.
Remember sowing dissent and division is not courage, it is not compassion, but what it is is deceit and ruthlessness. So those who still vote and support the republican party know that they are doing this because they are not generally ignorant, just selfish greedy sociopath-like hollow men/women. The living heartbeat among our society is being carried now by our liberal/progressive women and a smattering, but growing crowd of like minded men who understand that helping all is who we are, not hurting those who are not us. This is what republicans are doing though at the moment and if they succeed then the end of our democracy won't be the only precious thing we lose as our very breaths will be next.

Not much pressure from the media on trump shutdown (#3638)

This really is a sad state we are in when the media chooses to act ho hum about the horrible government shutdown trump has engineered. The fact that trump claimed responsibility for it and the media is still asking who everyone thinks is responsible for the shutdown underscores my point. Not only are the media acting like this shutdown is a common guilt of both parties but they are not putting any pressure on trump who on television claimed that he owns the government shutdown, https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/04/politics/shutdown-donald-trump-nancy-pelosi/index.html. Regardless of trump changing his tune and now blaming democrats for the shutdown, he claimed and it and it is still reality here on January 16th.
So where is the media except reporting trumps flip flops on who is to blame? They seem to have given up being the watchdog of democracy and for that they have earned a spurning from me. Now not all media is involved in this collaboration to keep the truth from our citizenry, but too many of our national media are acting like this is no big deal that our government has been shutdown now for 26 days. That trump claimed credit for it and told the senate that he would not sign the house passed bill to reopen less his wall demand money surely is enough evidence that trump is causing this shutdown in order to extort his wall money. That the senate will not even vote on the house bill to see if trump will actually veto it is further evidence of republicans in the senate being co-conspirators in the government shutdown.
The media cannot blame democrats for not trying to open the government since the democratic controlled house has passed numerous bills to that effect. So the majority silence by the media on the truth as to whom is responsible for the shutdown reeks of something akin to collusion itself. The media should be hammering trump and senate republicans on their failure to lead our nation and for not doing their jobs to keep our government operational and functioning but that is not what is happening. Our society is being exposed as a corrupt and unintelligible one because so few who are in control, outside of democrats, are of a care what this is doing to us. The media in it's part is just playing along as if this is normal and just a negotiation that is acceptable. Shame on the media and shame on republicans for holding our nation hostage.

We know trump is a liar... (#3637)

...so why would we ever believe anything he says? Just because he is the appointed president doesn't make him honest or to be given the benefit of the doubt. He lies like it is a second nature to him although in his case it may be a first nature. So when I continue to see reporting about him and his comments taken as truths I cringe in that the reporting is not doing enough to validate or verify his actions and/or claims. No wonder our nation is conflicted within itself. We don't value truth getting or facts as the ultimate goal. We instead lean toward promoting bombastic and sensational rhetoric because of some more nefarious ulterior motives and the capitalistic edge it provides.
I had assumed that logic and common sense would prevail over the fantastical and theatric but it appears that I have been overly optimistic. The lure of the irrational carnival barker is stronger than the principle of rationalization. Our "fast food" society has infiltrated even the halls of the once intellectual. If it is easily attained then why not regardless of the cost of the ease? Our drive through mentality wants what it wants now without having to tax our minds with objectivity. Surely too many of us think that thinking is not a value when any shortcut to the goal is available. The same sort of mindset used in capitalistic ventures has overflown into the shrinking noble paradigms of logic and reasoning, analysis and conclusion.
So trump being a liar is just an extension of our wanting everything now generations so if anything he is exalted for it. Getting away in life without having to be wise or honorably responsible seems to be the goal of too many who are like trump and keep supporting him. Last night's portrayal of trump serving fast food on the White House menu to the college football team is just another example of how far down the rabbit hole trump has fallen in that he took great pride in his gesture. Like what he did was masterful and commanding. I reckon about 40% our of voting public agree with him and are of the same identifiers as he in the whatever it takes to do what can be done and be damned anything like consequences get in the way.

As a man I march in support of women! (#3636)

The 3rd annual Women's March will be next Saturday, January 19th., and I will be in it. I know it is a march for women to secure equal rights in our society and I am not trying to make it anything else, I am just going to be there to support them in their rightful demand. The fact that women are treated as less than men is appalling to me and as such motivates me to do something about it. I am not as healthy as I used to be and marching in this protest on a cold January mid morning is not something I do lightly. Despite the weather and the wear and tear on my physical frame I will nonetheless be out there to demonstrate that equality is not just a definition reserved for men.
Even though I am a man and am privileged and advantaged by this undemocratic paradigm, I am still a human being above all and any human being who is unfairly treated is a specific concern to me. I cannot tackle all the problems in the world but I can walk for some miles in protest of policies that demean and disadvantage our greatgrandmothers, grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters and daughters. This is America and America should always stand up for democratic principles no matter they be foreign or domestic. That we need to clean our own house should be priority number one before we lecture others on the state of their house. I do not live as a hypocrite nor will I so march I will for our women not only here in America but for all women everywhere on Earth.
There is a silver lining in marching predominately with women in that they know how to have a good time while demanding their equal rights. My experience out on the march with them previously gave me an insight into their imaginative ways of making their point. It is almost a carnival atmosphere with a serious foundation. Have a good time while making sure that the reason for the march is absolutely understood. That is creative and draws me in as a supporter. They don't beat you over the head with their demand but they sure as hell make you know that the motivation behind their demand is real and unwavering. The placards they carry are heartfelt and at times hilarious but always at the core they are telling a truth that cannot be misunderstood. It is an honor to help fight for our women and hopefully all the other men out there will feel the same and join us.

The sociopathy of trump (#3635)

The pain trump causes to the working middle poor class is classic republican politics yet there is more to him being a locked in republican. His emotional disengagement to the harm real people are experiencing is symptomatic of a mental disorder more in line with psychopathic/sociopath tendencies. I am hesitant to delineate which pathy disorder he more specifically aligns with but in my rudimentary observations he is definitely within that paradigm of mental illness. His adamant stance to destroy economical lives in the face of his government shutdown regardless of the nearly million government workers being pawns in his gambit is just more evidence of his pathy.
Now even more evidence is the withholding of disaster relief for many states and Puerto Rico so that he can attempt to redirect those funds toward his vanity wall, https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/10/politics/border-wall-disaster-recovery-military-construction/index.html. All those many people who lost everything in the natural disasters are of no concern to trump as he cannot understand their pain. More to him being at least a sociopath. Being a republican already leans toward a sociopath mindset when their policies are to deny social justice in the name of capitalistic rule. Capitalism which is a very effective economic tool with social restraint becomes a weapon of the wealthy when social restraint is curtailed and eliminated. When only those who make the most money in republicanland are worthy of a voice in our society then the sociopath instinct is exposed.
In this trump has enough of the symptoms to make an early call that he is at least a sociopath. When every appointment and policy decision he supports is a wrecking ball to our American society of counter balancing the power the wealthy and capitalism, to the needs of a healthy society with fairness, equality of opportunity and justice our very Constitution is under attack. How much longer can we go as a nation of democratic principles before trump does something that cannot be undone just through the election process? His majority republican Senate is doing nothing to curtail him in that we are finding out that they too are complicit in Russian money. So the question becomes now what is left for us to do that will end this mental deficient president and his conspirators in power?

No shortcuts (#3634)

I have talked about shortcuts before and just how inefficient they are. Once again I will relay a story from an old now deceased friend of mine, Bud Hackney, logger. Bud had his own logging company that was family run then on it's third generation. So knowing how to log large tracts of property were no unknown to Bud. He was working up on a mountain with another outfit called Weyerhauser, who not only owned the mountain's logs but had their own crews logging them as well. So one day the Weyerhauser logging outfit challenged Bud to a race to see who could log their side of the mountain faster.
The catch was though that Weyerhauser had 5 times the crew that Bud had and in a perfect world should have had no problem beating Bud's two crews down the mountain. Bud accepted because he was wily for one thing and for another he had watched the Weyerhauser crews log for several weeks and figured he had an edge they wouldn't easily recognize. So off they went and Bud's two crews beat the ten crews to the finish. The Weyerhauser guys couldn't figure out how Bud had done it even though they watched Bud do his logging. First off Bud was razor sharp in his process and for another after some prying by the Weyerhauser foreman, Bud told him how he did it. Simply he said, I didn't take any shortcuts.
Bud told the Weyerhauser foreman that he watched their crews violate proper procedures and then have to go back to correct them in their haste to win the race. Bud didn't take shortcuts but he expected his crews to work their butts off whenever daylight shone. The moral of the story here is that even though shortcuts may make one think they are ahead, there is usually some unresolved issue that needs going back on to correct thus losing any advantage gained and often putting one behind. The honor of work is in itself sufficient to make one do the work correctly so that a feeling of pride and job well done is recognizable even if it is only acknowledged by the worker them self. Any job worth doing is worth doing right, a motto I live by no matter the job.

Day 21 of the trump/mcconnell shutdown (#3633)

Just so you know, I don't capitalize people's names when I don't respect them. Day 21 of the trump/mcconnell shutdown is hitting federal workers who are affected by it hard today. Because they would be getting paid today but they aren't. In the meantime trump is telling folks to do odd jobs and sell things to get by if they need money to survive. So uncaring this appointed president is. He thinks people can get by and keep working without being paid. I guess he does have lots of experience with that as he has shamefully withheld payments to his building subcontractors for less than honorable reasons on numerous occasions in his past life as a figurehead of a building company/corporation.
The TSA workers who are now leaving their posts in any way they can without being fired are just the tip of the iceberg here. We know that all of the 800,000 workers in federal government positions have been furloughed without pay. Those of the 800,000 who keep working, more than 420,000 workers, because their positions are critical to national security are also not being paid and somehow must find money to pay bills that are now due. So our FBI agents who are affected by this shutdown and our Coast Guard members who are also affected by this shutdown are in a really tight squeeze. We all need an income to pay our way in an increasingly dominated capitalistic society. So working for free while not having the funds to support their lives cannot go on and we are now seeing result of that.
Behind the scenes there are nine federal agencies who are not getting pay for their efforts, Departments of Justice, Treasury, Homeland Security, Agriculture, State, Interior, Transportation, Commerce, and Housing and Urban Development, https://www.theadvertiser.com/story/news/local/2019/01/11/federal-government-shutdown-day-21-what-you-need-know/2538265002/. The bigger picture of what trump/mcconnell are doing is putting our nation at risk so that they can build a wall that the majority of Americans and a majority of security experts agree that we don't need and shouldn't build. It is a vanity project for trump and he is hurting working Americans in order to brutally extract his demand. What kind of appointed president does this? One that doesn't have the intent to help anyone but himself and his colluding associates.

The trump theatircs is what is left (#3632)

Yesterday I called it posturing but today it is even less than that. It is theatrics now since there really is nothing left for trump to do but reopen government. Of course he will claim some kind of victory based upon some ridiculous notion of saving us from ourselves and at this point we are fine with it but not for long because after this power stunt has ended we will hold his feet to the fire for the terrible consequences it had on too many innocent people. That we democrats mostly created the legislation from the previous Senate bill that actually gives the laid off federal workers pay for the time off further makes this stunt of trumps erode with practically no support from the affected federal workers. Because without trump signing the House bill the federal workers would not get paid for their forced suspension without pay.
So as not only does each day mount more pressure on trump to stop this painful exercise in blackmailing the American people but it will keep adding to costs that trump had no intention of paying had he been able to make us Democrats cave to his threats. So when the bill for the shutdown far exceeds the amount he demanded from Congress the American people will have real life evidence of the inability of trump to manage our nations finances. From his economic deficiencies to his cultural and political deficiencies the ending of his presidency in 2020 is most likely assured along with his overall lack of empathy for the success of all Americans. That we will probably have to put up with his, I don't know, let's call them his tantrums, is probable but we do still have Mueller and his investigation that may stop trump and force him from office.
Regardless though this inevitable defeat of trump will not sit well with him and that is why he is having such a hard time ending the shutdown. It will confirm to even him that he is not what he thinks he is nor are we what he thinks we are. Pelosi and Schumer have done the bidding of our democratic party to the point of being spot on. We are not amused nor threatened by his cowardly ramblings against us and instead we are even more emboldened when he tries to force us from our principles. He is learning the hard way and in that learning his flailing around is proof that short of some tragic event of his making the toll is due and he is found wanting.

The wall that is coming is a democratic one that stops trump (#3631)

For all his posturing leading up to his demand for a trump wall on our southern border the fizzle that is left is the dud that wasn't a firecracker. So it is apparent that trump understands now that he cannot call for the suspension of our rights and declare some sort of Marshall law in order to build his wall. So now what is left for him to do? I suppose posture some more before he has to acquiesce to the reality of his untenable situation. He must back down and open government while knowing he isn't going to get our money for his vanity wall. The end of the line is where he is at and standing around while deciding how to escape his predicament isn't going to change the fact that he has hit a democratic wall that he cannot overcome.
So how will this latest attempt to blackmail America by republicans turn out? You should know that this isn't the first time republicans have resorted to blackmailing America in order to force their unpopular positions on us. They tried the same tactic in 2013, https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2013/10/republicans-shut-down-the-government-for-nothing/280611/. They got nothing then and they will get nothing now. In fact they should have been punished for their callous policy of taking government employees hostage in order to extract a ransom in the 2014 midterms. This time though they will be punished in 2020 because we Americans are not going to let them off the hook like we did last time.
I get so sick and tired of these republican politicians who think they are above our great nation and our constitution. They act like they are anointed or something similar and have no qualms at all ignoring the will of those of us who they represent. I am beyond ready to see them pay for their social, economic and political crimes. If the least we do is vote every one of them out of office it will be a justified start. Our society will never heal from the lesser of animal instincts republicans promote until we have done the purging from our conscience the real threat to advancing democracy, the republican party. They are no longer a viable check on keeping America safe and secure and instead are colluding with foreign entities to undermine our pride, goodwill and standing in the world.

trump appears to be all in on the wall money (#3630)

So it would seem that trump has put all his effort into keeping our government shut by the looks of it as of yesterday. But one thing I know about trump now is that he is all bluff and I expect the same here with the government shutdown. He is doing his last bit of posturing before he folds but have no doubt he is going down in flames. There is no turning back now for Congress and if anything the pressure on the snake mitch mcconnell is intensifying. That mitch says that he is not involved in this is not going to play well when he is in the exact middle of it.
Like I said yesterday, the senators and representatives can override any veto trump may sign. Getting the legislation to be voted on in the senate has ways around mcconnell as well. Although I suspect that mcconnell will have to choose between his own successful reelection this coming 2020 and an unsuccessful one if he backs trump past the calculated time for ending this republican debacle. Even though trump is acting out in an aggressive way to bully his demand be met, the chances of that happening are already heavily against him. We democrats have said no to his wall money and there is no going back on our commitment.
So trump will do his nationally televised carnival barking with as few truths and as many lies as he can to help persuade our American electorate that the wall is in his mind imperative. He may even threaten our populace with punishments if we don't help him break the democratic commitment against him. This is what trump does, he bullies and threatens anyone and everyone who doesn't kowtow to him. Yet we won't kowtow and instead we will continue to expose all his lies and his verbal brutality as it is unvarnished. The trump fever is strong and if we are to break it we must keep to our convictions while forcing him to face the effects of his actions and words!

This week will see trump fold (#3629)

The fiasco created by trump will end this week with a whimper from the madman carnival barker. What will also end is the majority of the Senate and Presidency of republicans in 2020. They gambled that they could outlast democrats on blackmailing the American people with our own government and it will fail miserably, because we don't respond well to threats anymore! It used to work when we were not as protective of our principles but those days are long gone now. Instead we are as angry as we have ever been as democrats and the coward bully republicans have been found out.
I know I am making this prediction without much to back me up except this. The entire republican party is beginning to wilt at the prospect of a shutdown for an unneeded wall. The cost benefit has been evaluated and republicans are not liking the conclusion. The longer this shutdown goes on and more people are hurt by it the harsher the punishment will be for those republicans running in 2020. That trump doesn't care is irrelevant because these lesser office holder republicans actually do care about their political futures. So if trump doesn't cave and end the shutdown expect republicans in the senate and house to vote on opening the government and even if trump vetoes the bill the Congress will very likely override his veto.
So the smart thing to do is for trump to end the shutdown today and cut his losses. But we are talking about trump so doing the smart thing is far from logical. Yet the pressure on him is mounting and he has nowhere to go for sanctuary that will lessen it. Today and the next few days should show the resolve of Congress to get government opened and if we have to do it without trump so be it. Then the processes for investigating trump will hit full force with little sympathy for the madman who would cost many their livelihoods just so he could try to hurt democrats. The writing is on the wall and maybe someone will read it to trump so that he has a better idea about just how much he is in the wrong on this shutdown he created for a NOT needed wall.

Our new congressional democrats are forcing the narrative (#3628)

What has been very pleasing to me is the force by which our newly elected democratic members are exerting on our national narrative. Besides the many conspiracies and law breaking by the republican party and trumps specifically, the legislative agenda is being outlined with a ferocity by our democratic caucus into the vacuum left by previous republican intransigence. Surely what republicans failed to realize is that the democratic party and it's mounting wave of growth is not in any sense eager for the status quo. Instead we are all in on the idea that things need to change back to we the people and not continue toward we the corporations.
What brought us a booming middle class was the policies of democrats after World War II. Going back to those policies with some efficient upgrades to fit our times is perfectly reasonable and at the heart of our democratic message. Along with aligning our constitutional rights to actually adhere to equality, fairness and justice. We are the party of democrats who are about to put privilege and advantage into the waste bin of history and instead promote merit and hard work as the values most desired from our citizenry. The fresh new voices from our newly elected majority House of Representatives is the culmination of the effort so far and is just beginning to loudly amplify itself beyond all the personal attacks and obfuscations of the republican political machine.
From taxing the wealthy at higher rates to making voting comply with a national standard and all equality points in between, our new democratic house members are the catalyst while our older democratic representatives navigate the process in order to maximize the outcome. Together we are the mightiest democratic party in my lifetime and we are just beginning. The future looks bright regardless of how inept the republicans and trump are now in forcing our nation into untenable situations. It won't be long for them to be flushed down into the sewer where their gambit at power deserves to be and even as I write this their swirling down has already begun.

We democrats are ready to govern (#3627)

Right off the bat our new democratic led house has put our imprint on what to expect. One bill after another is churning out from a long absence of republican governance. What we will also do is investigate, legislate and investigate at the same time. For what it is worth republicans investigated as well but in their case they were doing it as a political hatchet job not out of a real concern for the safety and welfare of our American nation. In this case we democrats are focusing on facts and truths not lies and manipulated outcomes. For the first time in a long time I am actually feeling good about how our House of Representatives is going to operate.
The bills coming out are a real satisfying advancement despite the republican intransigence to act on them. It shows the world just where the priorities of our democratic party lie. So whether they are taken up in the Senate/and or signed into law by trumps, the fact that we democrats are fighting for the working middle poor class is just what we need to do to not only help our nation lessen the gap of income inequality but to make sure that all our citizens voting rights are protected and available. Not only that but the gender and racial biases are being exposed and new protections for all people are being devised. Our democratic party is a massive rolling thunder of justice and fairness and it is coming to Washington while gaining even more momentum.
This feeling I have now about the effectiveness of our democratic party is not going away rather it is intensifying regardless of how far out the next election is. It is incredible the awakening the people of our nation are experiencing and no amount of forked tongue promises from republicans will keep us at bay. We have had enough and now it is time for action to continue like our Women's March in 2 weeks. We feed off of each other because we are all feeling the harsh and brutal tactics republicans have already instituted and are still trying to institute. As each day passes and more bills are passed in our House, and the investigations begin to unfold, the governance of our nation will shine brightly on the fact that it is we democrats who are leading the way through facts and truths out of the morass of hatred that republicans worked so hard to enforce.

The dawning of the era we expected back in 2016 (#3626)

We are behind schedule now at least 2 years with the manipulation republicans achieved in the 2016 elections but we now have begun to reverse that travesty and most likely illegality. With our new House of Representatives fully behind a liberal progressive vision the battle to reverse the trumps and his republican acolytes is in full swing. Never before has the polarization in our politics reinvigorated the democratic party like what trumps has done. Not the nixon, reagan, bush I, nor even the bush II presidencies have instilled in we democrats the sure fire will to end the reign of the despicable appointed president trump.
The taking of the House was not even considered possible in 2016 because of the gerrymandering and traditional voting patterns but in 2018. The realization of what trumps and his band of republican carpetbaggers had done to us has given rise to a revolt against them that has not only captured most free thinking independents but many unforeseen republicans. The depth of the depravity of republican politics to deny individuals their right to vote and to strategically map out districts guaranteed to give them an unfair advantage wasn't enough to save the House for them in 2018. The only reason they held onto the Senate was because too many seats up for election were democratic seats in red or very red states this cycle.
That will not be the case next cycle nor is trump in anyway a safe position to be reelcted. I am profoundly optimistic that with our people's House now being engaged through democratic policies the nation will get to see the difference between what we democrats offer to the whole of our nation and what republicans did to deny the whole of our nation. The clock is ticking again on the end of republican politics and if it is anything like the purge we had here in California in 2018 then the end for the republican party is just months away. In 2020 we begin from a stronger starting point to heal our nation than we would have if trump had not manipulated the 2016 election. It is a silver lining in a way but the disaster trump has wreaked upon us is real and not easily repaired.

Oh happy day! (#3625)

Yep, doing a little mental jig of a dance in my head right now. We democrats are just a few hours away from enjoying a successful 2018 midterm election result. Specifically on C-Span where our new leader of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi will be taking the gavel from whatever stooge is left from the dying republican party. I have no problem with calling republicans stooges since they are blindly following criminals, in both mcconnell and trump. Those days are gone for now at least in the House and in less than 2 years we will be done with mcconnell and trump as well.
So yeah baby, oh happy day today! I will turn on my television for the first time to C-Span in over 8 years and it will be a pleasure to spend my days going forward taking in our democratic party's ambitious and correct policy advances. The time for compromising with republicans was never really an option in the past and now every knows it except republicans of course. Let me explain. The republicans party left the working middle poor class back in the 1970's and even then were only partially in on us. My political awareness was awakened in the sixties with the assassination of our democratic president John Kennedy. Since then I have learned that it is the democratic party that has a vision for all of us and not like republicans who are only in it for the wealthy and themselves personally.
So today is a triumph of sorts in that the American electorate awoke from a decades long slumber to finally see what republicans have been doing and we most all of us are not pleased. So beginning today we the true patriots of American democracy are stepping into our rightful places albeit not fully until after the 2020 election. We have to blunt any further damage to our Supreme Court but hopefully that will not become a factor until after we democrats have retaken the Senate. The momentum is ours and even with the satisfying events of the midterm elections and today's claiming of the Speaker's gavel, our Women's March set for later this month on January 19th must again show the world that the blue wave election of 2018 was just a riptide compared to the tsunami that will hit in 2020.

My greatest attribute? Solving problems (#3624)

There is one thing I know about myself real clearly, it is that I have to solve problems just to get by. Like last night, my little room heater gave out and I got through the cold night using a spare awkward heater for my room. Old house and I don't have central heating because I have a 1950's style flat roof. Anyway, last night I took my normal floor heater apart with some difficulty I might add. It seems that the manufacturer went out of his way to make it nearly impossible to self repair this model. Anyway, again, I did get it apart and found a couple of charred connections. I replaced them but still the heater wasn't functioning after I put it back together.
So then I went and used the spare heater for the night which is a spare heater for a reason because it is ancient and less efficient. So mostly first thing this morning I took the usual heater apart again which as per usual was a real pain in the the you know what! However upon getting it back apart and further investigation, I found another set of connections that had charred mostly apart. Well, I was feeling better now that I felt like I had gotten to the core of the problem. It seems that someone using this heater before I acquired it had tried to fix it themselves and had only set it up to fail. So I took that fix out and redid the wiring so that it was as good as new. I plugged the heater in with it apart still and laying on its side but no heat. Yet when I took all the parts and stood it upright it began to emanate heat.
It is back together and working like it always had until yesterday and for that I am happy that I didn't have to deficit spend to get a new one. It is like that a lot with me most of my life. I have never had a lot and the few times I have I have given to others who were in desperate modes. So fixing my problems is the best solution for me. Not only in the area of material breakdowns but in the area of changing with our times to better become a more complete human being. Let me tell you that becoming the best version or staying even with the good I am now is a never ending problem of finding solutions but in my case anyway I am well prepared to keep that paradigm going.

2 days and we get Nancy (#3623)

Thursday morning is going to be like when I was young boy at Christmas. I will be ready to jump out of bed and turn on C-Span in order to watch we democrats take the gavel of the Speakers Chair in our House of Representatives. I have said this numerous times in the past that I haven't watched our House proceedings on C-Span since the election day of 2010. It is not healthy for me to watch the corruption of republican politics and what it does to every good, great and decent fiber of my existence. So all I had was C-Span2 for the next 4 years until that also went to the republicans on that election day. So my not having watched any C-Span for the last 8 years is coming to and end in 2 days.
If anything I am a principled, disciplined liberal with still more forgiveness in my soul for all people than any republican has ever felt for anything but themselves. Their conqueror mentality is colonial in nature and their paternal outlook on life is a mental deficiency that should never again see the role of rule in our mighty democratic society. This coming Thursday is truly going to be epic for me and I cannot fathom anything much more sweet this year than possibly a removal of the whole of the trump appointed administration. In lieu of that hoped for outcome I am still in high spirits for the handover of the gavel to our champion leader in the House, Nancy Pelosi.
This critical juncture in time for us is perfectly aligning with Nancy being our leader to then passing on the torch of leadership in some soon to be future time. Much like what the elder statesman Jerry Brown did for us in his last tenure as our governor here in California, Nancy will steadily guide us toward our liberal/progressive goals. Her outlook is progressive with caution, much like what Jerry championed but make no mistake, Nancy is as laser focused on turning us around from the harsh austerity for the working middle class and the privilege and advantage of the wealthy as Jerry was. She will, with a determination trump only wishes he could pull off, force the trumps to feel the pain of the wrath of the American electorate with a sentinel purpose of exacting a cost for the republican condescension and belligerence of the honorable will of the American people.
