I look forward to this march because of what it stands for, the rights and equality in our society for not only women but all who are oppressed. Through this march we again highlight that women are treated in society and through our laws as second class citizens and that has to end! So making everyone aware of this is what we are doing by participating. There is a real need for an uprising to force the powers that be away from their exclusion policies. This is how we do it when our other constitutional avenues for instituting change are less than successful. We march together to show solidarity and to build consensus around those areas of policy that can and should become enshrined into law.
There is another aspect of marching for change that is more personal and that is the feeling one gets by being around smart intelligent people who are not only serious about constitutional rights but who know how to enjoy life even when marching for a cause. I have been to great big parties and concerts that were enormous but none of them compare to the marches for change in our society. What a tremendous feeling of belonging and happiness when we walk together to show our resolve to make our world better than when we got here. The camaraderie is infectious in that you cannot help but feel the positive energy and the acceptance of all out there as one big happy family.
The smiles of hope and the joy of being part of something greater than ourselves is impossible to recreate at any other setting. A force for good and change that has less to do with us being entertained or making money off of some venture and more to do with our inner character. We stand up for our women tomorrow like we men would if it were ourselves fighting for our very own acceptance in society. I have known this my whole life, that doing something positive for someone else is a rush of a high that cannot ever be recreated with some inebriating substance. Being a part of this women's march is going to be a highlight of my year and will be every year until we can rectify the inequality our precious women are forced to endure!
