The idea that wisdom comes with age is true. But not to all who grow old. Many of the elderly in our species do not gravitate toward wisdom and the discipline it requires. Instead they go by their own subjective ability to grasp power and then wield it like a cudgel. Instead of enlightening society with their acquiescence to shape evolving possibilities they fall back on their own desires regardless if they benefit society. Growing up in my generation there were dreams of greater achievements and spectacular innovations. What we got instead was the result of fear that permeated the elders and forced them to drown their own innocence.
We, our younger generation, were sabotaged by fear, greed, and self serving interests. So all the hope of our generation disappeared in front of our eyes with assassinations of both Kennedy's and Dr. King. What could have been will never be and for that there is great sorrow in my soul. Instead we got those leaders who were not visionaries nor extraordinary role models outside of Jimmy Carter. Given the penchant for republicans to do underhanded things since before nixon manipulated his election, I do not doubt that republicans had a hand in some aspect of the assassinations. That is how republicans keep power, through taking from us until and beyond we bleed out.
I will forever be a proponent of lowering the voting age to 16. At 16 I was on top of my political views yet couldn't cast a vote for them. Even the United kingdom instituted a 16 year old vote. Yet we here in America cannot even raise our federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour. The democrats would easily do it but republicans have always been against greater voter participation and citizens earning a living wage. Our youth is the victim of older men who will not let go of the reins of power. They are not wise men nor to be lauded with gravitas. They are a sickened lot who should be thrust from anything that provides creativity and implementation in the public sector.
