(#5976) The courts the courts the courts...

      For those of us who knew that the republican controlled House and Senate would be complicit with most everything trump tries to do to erode democratic constitutional guardrails, it is the courts that have stepped up and said whoa, wait a minute! I knew that the district and appellate courts would favor saving constitutional laws but I worried that the 6-3 republican split on the Supreme Court would side with trump when they eventually got to make the final decisions. But my sense now is that most of those republicans on the Supreme Court are suspicious of trump and themselves losing power.
     More is yet to be revealed and those revelations are coming very soon. If the Supreme Court sides with trump on election manipulation and national guard control then the verdict for a free election in the coming midterms will be unattainable. If trump can commandeer state national guard troops at his pleasure then voting, which will become more cumbersome will be difficult to achieve when troops are at the polling places as obstruction. There is so much going on right now and for those who are not yet ready to engage in the reality the rest of us are screaming is at our doorstep then I admit we will have little to no chance to escape the coming trump authoritarian rule.
     None of our constitutional institutions will survive, not even the Supreme Court. Which is why I expect the court to rule against trump for their own survival. Not out of some great respect for our constitution but more to assuage their own personal fears. Whatever the reason the verdict to uphold democratic norms is vital and although selfish on the part of the republicans on the court I will be happy for it. The rule of law should always be defended but in this moment that is under a cloud. The republicans on the Supreme Court gave trump a get out of jail free card and trump is emboldened to grasp for more. I expect the republicans on the Supreme Court didn't expect their gift to trump to come back and bite them in their asses!
