The forty eighth and final state to join in on early voting is New York. Today marks the first day New Yorkers will be showing the world what enthusiasm they have for getting their votes into the election office queues. Alabama and New Hampshire, for whatever unintelligible reason do not offer early voting. However the rest of our states do and although early voting isn't unanimous it is overwhelming. So much so that an approximate 2/3rds of our electorate this election will have already voted before November 3rd election day. The reason is that most of us like voting at our convenience and not on just one day. We have seen past elections where folks have had to stand in line for as much as 14 hours when early voting wasn't readily available.
The fact that their is no national holiday for voting is also a restriction on voting that hampers the working middle poor class. Most of us have to work around election day voting and voting is often forgone when the difficulties of the day make voting too difficult to accomplish. The effect of not having election day as a national holiday is that many voices of the working middle poor class are silenced because of the complication. Those who benefit are the wealthy who are always available to vote since they don't live within the restrictions of surviving from paycheck to paycheck. Our democracy is played to extremes by those who wish to use strategies to win instead of policies. Shame on them!
More than 25 million ballots have been received back from voters. Like exponentials, the return rates in completed ballots will increase several fold from here until election day. My extreme hope is that at least 170 million ballots are counted when all the votes are received. I know that is an inconceivable total to expect but nonetheless I hope that of the more than 217 million registered voters, with 38% being democrats, 32% being republican, and 28% being independent will understand what is at stake here. This isn't some indifferent election between similar candidates. This election is about whether we are going to remain a democracy. Surely that would warrant a turnout of the highest priority to our electorate. That is my gamble here that knowing our democracy is on the line will motivate even the most detached voter to vote!
This blog will be an advocate for compassion, curiosity and human survival. When these elements of human nature are being denied, wholly, severally or individually, less than positive human traits are the outcome. It is my wish and hope that my reasonings on a variety of subjects will provide the readers of this blog with personal and public insights. My only motive is to provide a forum for advancing enlightenment. Carl Clark.
