It is a choice to be humble. I know this because I was often a braggart myself and what I found was that nobody likes a braggart except we see if you have power and the illusion of wealth. Then the braggadocio is tolerated and even encouraged. This is what we have with the republican party's leader heir trump. He was born into wealth and raised with no expectation of sacrifice on his part. He floated through school not even learning the more than simple aspects of reading, writing and arithmetic. His inability to have earned his place in our society is highlighted by his advantage and privilege. Given everything from the start and bailed out many times since he has given himself as an example of how achieve devoid of merit.
This is the struggle of America and the democratic values we are trying to instill in all walks of our public life. Equality of opportunity, fairness and justice equally served is the goal but not when we get the fractured man child trump as our leader. He basked in the privilege and advantage and thinks of himself as clever and insightful. The rest of us are just not up to his standards even though he has no guideline for standards other than reach and achieve success despite any sacrifice. Apparently the rest of us are fools for not cheating and taking shortcuts our whole lives like he has.
There is an unsteadiness about trump as well. He seems to think the world revolves around him and all reactions to anything are somehow a reflection directly or indirectly aimed at him. There is a consensus that he may be at the stage where what little objective thinking he had has devolved into an early stage psychosis. He is much like the wounded king who cannot trust his own allies not to end his reign and the fear that brings to him clouds any good judgment he may have had in his life at some point in time. His example is one of a cautionary tale. How we ever ended up with a carnival barker as the leader of the greatest democracy on Earth should never be allowed to happen again and all adjustments in the future must be to protect our democracy from the unfortunate stain trump has left on our constitution and our society on whole.
