(#6249) Voices carry!

Yes, we could reference Aimee Mann's song but in this case it is not just about an individual relationship abuse. I could have entitled this post Shout, like from Tears for Fears and I would likely have hit the mark a little closer but I was drawn to the Til Tuesday Voices Carry because the method of transport is more appropriate. It isn't just about the volume of the words we say, it is more about the words carrying out and spreading far and wide through others who hear them. Now someone like Sydnie Christmas and her version of Sinatra's My Way belting out like an incredibly powerful message is always perfectly welcome and then when spread like with Voices Carry becomes more than entertainment, it blossoms into anthems!
Our voices are our weapon of self identity. Yes, weapon! Because that is how we fight back against those who would not only deny us our individual pursuit of happiness but our collective one as well. Most of our civilized world understands that human rights are our destiny. But there are those among us who do not. They still think that a class system that differentiates humans into categories of worth and value is a manifest destiny they must have. So no democracy, no equality, no liberty to pursue happiness unless a by your leave is asked and given by those who would rule. Our human being species needs to get this understood. Democracy is the answer to an egalitarian society. Nothing else works!
I often spend time in the mornings, when I have no prior commitment to anything else, listening to the music of my generations. Yes, generations because my generation overlaps with the music of other generations. In music I hear and see the truth of life played in sound and sight. Generalizations mostly but sometimes specifically. That is the beauty of artistic expression it more than often mirrors contemporary situations and paradigms. When the complexity of the world is masked by falsehoods and lies you can always go back to a song to help to understand what is really important. If democracy is being denied then it isn't difficult to know who is hiding it and who is trying to reveal it. Music helps with that if you ever don't know whom to trust!
