(#4516) To forge the future we must adjudicate the past

Never again do I want to hear about moving forward without dealing with the past. Too many said back when President Obama came in as President that the crimes of shrub should be let go and focus on the future instead. Well that is not how it should have been done. All crimes by those in trust positions need to be adjudicated without prejudice. I believe we got the antics and crimes of trump because we didn't hold shrub accountable for his crimes. Once a nefarious precedent is set it makes future actions by the unscrupulous more likely. There can be no leniency to the trump cabal because of what they did to us was real and harmful to us and democracy.
So despite the fact that a lot of trump supporters will be butt hurt if trump is held to account for his criminality their butt hurt is just too bad! There is no restoration of faith and justice to democracy if those who had the greatest trust are not punished for violating that trust. As those of us in the working middle poor class know oh so well it is that when we violate a law or even a social more we are almost always punished with the concept of "do the crime do the time". We don't get some magical dispensation because we are special or advantaged. If justice is to prevail in our democracy then even those who are famous and/or wealthy need the same principles of criminality applied to them.
We do justice in our society as a punishment for the offenders and also as a reminder to any who would commit the same type of crimes that there is no leniency. A sufficient barrier to repeat crimes that are punishable through the harsh but fair lens of justice. We don't want another trump type to step into the White House knowing that he/she will get away with what amounts to murder and be absolved of such action. The duty of public office is to maintain societal trust and advance the modern concepts of democracy. There is no room for those who are only in public office to enrich or otherwise empower themselves. Those that do, need to know that the full weight of justice is hanging over the top of their heads waiting to come down swiftly.
