Yesterday in the world of mail in voting a move was made to release the trump rule from the judge ordered injunction to force states to give him voter information. By removing the injunction, the judge is making way for other lawsuits that are not under any restriction of timing. The trump rule is now published and is effectively a harm states can now address in the courts. Expect a new flurry of decisions aimed at ending back up with the supreme court As this end run around the constitution is also time sensitive. That we are even having to go through more hoops over this nonsensical attempt to stifle votes by the executive branch that has no constitutional jurisdiction is appalling.
Yet here we are with a trump loving supreme court who should be a constitution loving supreme court. Our democracy is being shredded right before our eyes with obviously partisanship trumping precedent and objective logic. I still think this is a bridge too far for the majority republican supreme court to cross and expect them to stop this craven attempt by trump to disrupt the backbone of our democracy. There is no provision in our constitution for trump to use the executive branch to alter the power vested in states and through legislation, Congress. It is a real power grab that negates our constitution as nothing more than a suggestion. The supreme court is on the verge of delegitimizing itself for all to see. The effect will be a chaotic one where the rule of law will cease to be the final arbiter.
If the republican majority on the supreme court thinks it can shove this new trump effort to thwart our election down our throats then they are in for a rude awakening. Civilization is not one sided. Our democracy demands that we fight to keep our right to vote. This new trump rule would effectively deny many voters an opportunity to vote. The supreme court knows this and would become culpable with trump in usurping the right of we the people to cast a ballot for our leaders. This would be akin to a coup by republicans and would not be acceptable to democratic values. The tide is heavily on the side of democracy and any attempt by any politician and their cohorts to obstruct that tide through unconstitutional means would trigger a response likely to be harsh and devoid of mercy.
This blog will be an advocate for compassion, curiosity and human survival. When these elements of human nature are being denied, wholly, severally or individually, less than positive human traits are the outcome. It is my wish and hope that my reasonings on a variety of subjects will provide the readers of this blog with personal and public insights. My only motive is to provide a forum for advancing enlightenment. Carl Clark.
