(#5029) No red wave last night

In midterm elections the party out of power most often has the best night. Yet last night was basically a wash for republicans. They had decent night however but the results are not all in. We democrats withstood the barrage of republican votes and still have a good shot at holding the Senate and at least making the House gain by republicans slim to precarious. Democrats picked up some governorships and state legislatures which was much needed. We also had some close losses that took the happiness out of our night somewhat but that just tells me that republicans have set themselves up for a torrential blue wave in 2024 if they do what they promised to do if they gain the Congress or half of it.
It is a shame that we democrats didn't get the necessary Senate seats to undo the Senate filibuster rule but without control of the House it would have been obstructed anyway by the pending slim republican majority. All in all though Joe Biden limited the damages of turnover and avoided a much worse political outcome. For that we are thankful and hopeful because our cause is a good one. We had hoped to do campaign finance reform to kick dark money and over spending by the wealthy in our elections. We non wealthy are often smothered in our attempt to finance good candidates by overwhelming money going to wealthy republican candidates.
Overall this election was both discouraging and satisfying so a real mixed bag of outcomes. The most disappointing is of course the House being in jeopardy of being lost. The next disappointment is not getting enough Senators to abolish the filibuster. Yet the State races were and are continuing to be encouraging. There will be a stalemate at the federal level if republicans are able to maintain their current slim leads. So working to make 2024 a real barnburner of an election will be our goal. But for now this is all I will be doing for that for a little bit as I need the physical and emotional rest of pouring my heart and soul into this election.
