(#5891) We can save our democracy

By we I mean we the people. However it will take a sustained effort by a majority of us. As for now the courts are holding relatively firm against trumps anti democracy demands. Rightly or wrongly about the government shutdown outcome, as it turned out the seamless constancy of judicial decisions has been to our favor. Whether that seamless constancy would have continued during a short government shutdown is moot now. So we have lost on the policies that are horrendous with trump gaining spending choices but we kept in place the funding to keep our judiciary operating. It may well turn out to have been the wisest choice between two bad ones given some still uncertain events.
However we the American electorate are at fault for this bad set of choices we are currently lamenting. The vote last November needn't have been cast for trump yet too many of us didn't understand the real implications. Well those real implications are no longer implications they are fact. How we survive this threat with both chambers of Congress with majorities for trump is down to the judiciary. Three federal branches of government make up our democracy. The executive branch, which is the Presidency. The legislative branch, which is the House of Representatives and the Senate which is commonly referred to as Congress. And the judicial branch, which is made up of our District Courts, Appellate Courts, and our Supreme Court.
With two of the three branches of government controlled by trump the only way our democracy can survive is for the judicial branch to defend it. Yet, the judicial branch cannot alone defeat the current ideologies that are attacking democracy. We the people need to support our common ally in the courts and put pressure everywhere we can to make sure that the decisions by our courts are adhered to. This is a fragile time for our democracy and we all need to understand the nature of the threat. We have a current president who has no empathy for the rule of law nor anyone other than himself and his. His quest to dismantle our democracy is underway and all we have left to fight him are the courts and ourselves.
