The only thing keeping us knitted together in society is the expectation and the operation of the rule of law for all. I know sometimes it does appear that the wealthy live by another set of rules but for the most part we are all subject to the law regardless of our station in life. Except one person who is in our presidency. That trump has decided that he can flout the law in many circumstances is unsettling to say the least and completely dishonest with no good repercussion as a result. He has disavowed his service to the rule of law if it does not match up with his ego. He has placed himself above the law by some credence to his position as our president.
The intent of the law is to keep a balance in society that assures all that no one is above the law. It gives us the confidence to be ourselves in a vast and diverse nation. Yet trump has decided that by virtue of his electoral appointment he is somehow greater than the many with no just cause to support his position. He was appointed to serve us, we the American people. Not the other way around which he has obviously confused to his advantage. Our democracy cannot stand on its own if we have one of the three branches of government ignoring the separation of powers as a rule.
So how do we approach this breach by trump of our standards and practices? We call him out on them and then make sure he is reversed in all forms from his strategy. It isn't easy as he has placed his yes men in powerful positions and some who were elected long ago into our government have been waiting for an unruly sort like him to come along. But we do have a lot of good people in our government who will not stand by and let our democracy crumble under the ego of a careless and cruel hollow man. I often think that the need to be a sociopath/psychopath as a condition to be uncaring and brutal is necessary, and if trump continues to maneuver his acts and behaviors and such then my understanding of him will be spot on!
