4 days left until the election (#4290)

96 hours folks. Single digits on the hours and counted another way, less than one handful of fingers as days. It is so exciting counting the days down to the end of this nightmare that the living of it becomes less unbearable somehow. Yet it is real, the nightmare, and if what we are seeing in the voting of this election so far we democrats have some hope that the nightmare will start to end after the vote counting. The pandemic has changed how we vote in stark ways and that may account for the early voting records being smashed but the voters who are doing the smashing are from all ages and groups. Which in normal times is not the case.
Today, Saturday, and Sunday are the main last days for early voting left and if I am not mistaken they will be a busy 3 days. We are at about 82 million early votes in already and I had hoped last week that we would hit 100 million votes in the early period but I kind of gave up on that and instead hoped for 80 million. Well it looks like the early vote will be closer to my original 100 million mark after all. We will see. Either way though if not 100 million the action of that many voting prior to our traditional election day is still quite impressive.
In 2016 we had a total of 58 million early votes and 138 million in all. So it seems reasonable to assume that with 4 years of expanding our voter registrations that 150 to 170 million votes this election is clearly possible. If that many turnout it will be a good night for democrats and likely allies, independents. For there are not enough republican voters out there to equal the sheer volume of voters we have. I am feeling a bit optimistic that the trends are consistent much like the polling has been for the last several years. That trump has spent his capital on himself and now has little to no capital to spend on convincing American voters that he is worthy of another appointed term.
